  • 1 cup milk choose from whole, 1%, 2%, or a non-dairy alternative like oat or almond
  • 1 cup medium #2 bulgur
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons honey adjust to your preferred sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon unsalted butter optional
  • 10 ounces fresh apples chopped
  • ½ cup blueberries optional
  • 2 tablespoons toasted chopped pecans or cashews (optional)

Instructions

  • Begin by preparing the bulgur. Combine the bulgur, milk, and water in a medium-sized saucepan. Set over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally. Once it reaches a boil, remove the saucepan from the heat, cover, and allow it to sit undisturbed. Let the bulgur absorb all the liquid fully, creating a soft, fluffy texture.
  • After the bulgur has absorbed the liquid, add any remaining milk, stirring to blend everything together. Sprinkle in a dash of cinnamon for warmth and drizzle the honey, adjusting to your desired level of sweetness. Toss in the chopped apples and gently stir, allowing them to warm and slightly soften within the mixture.
  • If using, stir in the butter and, if desired, the apricots or blueberries. Continue stirring gently until the blueberries release their juices, lending a vibrant color to the porridge. Serve the porridge with a final sprinkle of toasted pecans or cashews for added crunch and flavor, if desired. Enjoy warm!
