Warm the teapot: Pour a small amount of the hot water into the teapot and swirl it around to warm it up. Then, discard this water.
Add the tea: Place the loose Earl Grey tea into the teapot and pour the hot water over it.
Steep the tea: Cover the teapot and let the tea steep for 3 to 5 minutes. A steeping time of 4 minutes usually provides a well-balanced flavor.
Strain and serve: Strain the tea leaves and pour the hot tea into a teacup.
Customize: Add milk and sugar or a slice of lemon to taste, if desired.
