Ingredients

  • 1 yellow onion sliced into ½-inch rings
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • cups panko bread crumbs
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Heaping ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • Extra-virgin olive oil for drizzling
  • Tartar Sauce optional, for dipping

Instructions

  • On a rimmed tray, combine the panko bread crumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, and sea salt. In a shallow bowl, lightly beat the eggs, and place the flour in a separate small bowl.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 370°F.
  • Take each onion ring and coat it with flour, making sure to shake off any excess. Next, dip it into the beaten eggs and then into the panko mixture, ensuring it's thoroughly coated. Place each ring on a large plate.
  • Lightly drizzle the prepared onion rings with extra-virgin olive oil. Arrange them in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring there is space around each ring to allow for even cooking. Do not overcrowd the basket; if necessary, cook in batches.
  • Air fry the onion rings for 8 to 11 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Repeat with any remaining onion rings. Serve immediately with tartar sauce, if desired.

Notes

After all batches are cooked, place them all back into the air fryer (they don't need to be in a single layer) and heat for 1 to 2 minutes to rewarm any that may have cooled from the first batch.
